The thing about Westworld is that it's a meta-show. (Obviously, this is not verbatim, but it might as well be.) This is a show about Serious Issues, like Money and What Money Is and Who Has Money and Why Money Is Bad. But there's something beyond a difference in preference when it comes to the way people (white men) talk about the show du jour. No one show appeals to everyone, even those that dominate the critical conversation and/or the ratings. So while my peers are getting hard over premium cable's latest requiem for The Wire, I've stuck with Girls this whole time and enjoyed every minute of it. The more something is recommended, the less I tend to want to watch it.

Buzzy series with rabid, devoted, spoiler-obsessed fanbases tend to have a few things in common: they are by and about men they are violent they are prestige dramas they have high production values and respected actors I hate them on principle. Another day, another dawn, another "groundbreaking" show I'm told I "have to" watch.
